Background to the Trophies

Tom Taylor and Mike Pratt, both sadly no more, were two very different founding members of the Choir.  Tom was a fine singer, great raconteur and always a focus of fun and laughter.

Mike was Chairman for the first 13 years of the Choir’s existence and his energy and commitment to its well being was unsurpassed.  In different ways they each hugely contributed to what the Choir is today.

The Tom Taylor Trophy was originally presented to our Choir by members of the Llantrissant Choir (Sth Wales) with whom the RMVC had a very close relationship in earlier years. It was, and is, to be presented annually to the member(s) with the highest combined attendance at practice and concert.  This year that person is Brian Bull, congratulations and thanks Brian both for your attendance but also continued hard work on behalf of the Choir in particular concerning liason with St Mary’s.  Brian incidentally was awarded the Mike Pratt Trophy in 2009.

The Mike Pratt Trophy is awarded to a member who has, in the opinion of the current and past Chairmen, contributed greatly, over a period of many years, to the well being of the Choir.

This year the well deserving recipient is Barry Riley.

An innovation this year was a picture quiz (below) to test the memory and remind us that the choir has a considerable
history and fund raising capability: (Incidentally the sum of £58 was raised by entrants to the quiz on the night)
